Afterwards, we invite you to come back to the fellowship hall for some dessert and get acquainted (or re-acquainted) with our new High School Youth Director, Keith James. Keith is looking forward to meeting all of you and working with our youth. He is already on staff at AFFIRM this summer! So join us on February 12 as we continue to support our youth and our newest addition to the Youth Ministry Team.If you plan on joining us for dinner at 5 p.m., please RSVP to Vickie Davis so that we can plan our meal accordingly.

Designed for youth, grades 6 through 12, the youth ministry program of Christ the Lord inspires growing relationships with Christ and with one another. Combining learning, fellowship, and service events, this program is enthusiastically attended by our youth. 30 Hour Famine Lock-In!

Where we need help from parents/caring adults:

  • Help chaperone overnight at the church
  • Bring a ‘dish’ to share to help ‘break the fast’ on Saturday at noon.

Friday, March 9th, 8pm – Saturday, March 10th, noon

Fasting begins after breakfast on Friday, March 9th, and ends with our lunch on Saturday, March 10th.  This is a JUICE FAST.  There will be juice provided throughout the event, and youth are invited to bring their own as well (no soda or orange juice).

We will meet at the church on Friday, March 9th, at 8:00pm.

Through fun and fellowship (and hunger) we will open our eyes and hearts to a bigger understanding and awareness of hunger, both in the world and here in our community.

Fasting is a personal commitment.  Your son/daughter will be responsible for his/her own participation.  In other words, we will not be ‘policing’ them to see if they are ‘cheating’ or not.  If your son/daughter is not physically capable of fasting for 30 hours, he or she CAN still participate.

Why this event?  Our hope is that youth will gain a better understanding and awareness of the hunger around them.

There is a voluntary request of $5 per youth to help offset costs.

Friends are welcome!

Sign up outside Keith’s or Vickie’s offices.

As the name implies, it is a retreat for youth throughout the state of Georgia, in grades 6th through 12th. Our church youth will travel together and will be staying together in cabins, so this is an easy get together for those youth who may not have been with us on any retreats yet. It begins Friday night and ends on Sunday morning. Registrations can be found outside Vickie Davis’ and/or Keith James’ offices, or you can find them online. Cost is $75 for youth. There is no cost for adults!

Safe Sanctuary

Christ the Lord Lutheran Church is committed to providing a safe, secure and nurturing environment for all children, youth, and volunteers who participate in ministries and activities sponsored by Youth and Children’s Ministries. As part of our commitment to preserving this church as a holy place of safety and protection for all who would enter and as a place in which all people can experience the love of God through relations with others, our volunteers working with children and youth fill out an extensive application, are trained, and some are required to submit to a background check.

Our Confirmation Ministry is designed to help families (child and parents) to LIVE out their Holy Baptism.  Each Learning Event begins with a meal, and then the youth gather in the sanctuary for a lesson taught by a Pastor or Vickie Davis.  The youth then break into grade-based small groups for more in-depth discussion led by an adult.  This structure offers time to build strong relationships among the youth, to discuss key faith issues, and to plan fellowship and service projects throughout the year.  The “Affirmation of Baptism” for our 8th graders takes place on Pentecost Sunday.

We use “Here We Stand” Confirmation curriculum, produced by Augsburg Fortress.

9:00 Sunday school offers a traditional classroom setting for ages four years through sixth grade. Classroom teachers instruct the children on the Bible and enjoy fellowship with their group.

10:00 Sunday school is offered for students ages four years through high school. Preschool and elementary children enjoy small groups that rotate through centers: worship, crafts and games. Each center activity is based on the day’s Bible lesson. Middle school and high school youth have a traditional classroom setting using a curriculum focusing on the Bible and today’s issues.

Parent/Toddler Sunday School is offered the first Sunday of the month at the 9:00 service. Bible lessons provide parents the opportunity to see their faith through the eyes of their children and see more clearly their role as Christian parents. At the same time, children and parents can build relationships with other families who have very young children.

Youth Group’s Coat Drive

Do You Have a Coat to Spare?

Brrr… Its getting cold. Time to get out those coats! When you do, if you have any that you have outgrown or no longer wear, save them for the Youth Group’s Coat Drive!

During the months of December and January, we will be collecting coats for the needy. We will take them to the clothing store supported by the First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville. This ministry works in conjunction with the Lawrenceville Co-Op in assisting families in need.

Look for a collection box outside Pastor Julie’s office.
